The following project for a café becomes an investigation in contemporary urban body culture. Consumer society forces the crowd into repeated bodily matrices: in positions of mass reception. Conventions in orchestrating meta-bodies as audiences, passengers are providing portions of spaces: bodily containers to unfold in. Crisis of these batteries unfold on the fields of concatenations.
Shared armrest in cinema and airplane seatings are doubly issued, over booked zones, in which congested bodies unfold a dramatic process of negotiation. Sequential intrusions, overlaps, displacements launch an oscillating choreography, bodies acquire wave states.
72 bachelor cubicles are arranged to heighten this experience and to incorporate it into the repertoire of inner city interactions. The café of Intersecting intimacies joins the otherwise unrelated individuals to a human forest: a larger entity. Exploiting spatial compression, the project is sited in hip but crowded downtown areas, where all can become play. This is the story of the overbooked space of café 72.
