Questions that drive the project are triggered by my disbelief of architecture being able to generate something new. Architecture´s history is the one of interpretation and reference, thus related to nostalgia. Language thus seems to host a possible solution for this impossibility. Collisions of words drive associations through which novelty is constructed. I have devised a routine that feeds on texts and translating those, prescribes spatial constructs. Current experiments that I am conducting in my research at school are exploring how such constructs can be effectively deployed in formalization of architectural objects. So, I am writing to you in my doubt. Can language at all generate something new? Can deep explorations of implications of meaning lead to something unprecedented or is mankind in the use of language bound to the use of metaphors?

mechanistic alternative for a centro cultural

I share the belief that one shall not be blunt to engage in gestures as Garcia Lorca's life was all about compassion and empathy, thus I chose to propose a scheme that would place us into a confronting situation, in which architecture would have to be invented from the underground, out of defence, thus mirroring the political situation of Lorca: of persecution and finally execution by a non-negotiable force. A procedure was devised, that fed on texts of FGL would return two matrices being respectively floor and ceiling of the building. The roof matrix contained a text by FGL, the floor matrix a quasi-fascistic exercise of its words: lined up by number of occurrence and length. Connecting the two matrices, a rigid grid-like but non-linear thorny vertical structure was established within the field of the building. In a truly half-hearted attempt we grew volumes around the spines that would correspond with the program but follow and express the treacherous paths of translation.

This is a collection of patterns resulting from a code deviating from the original intention. In the strict logic of intentionality, working towards a predetermined goal, these results qualify as Errors. Their apparent beauty hint towards the vast array of discarded logics and thus challenge intelligent determination. The process unfolds in sequential time thus reminds of the linear condition of the metabolism and the purity of the designated – planned ideal: unwanted mutations painfully remind of the original intention of escaping preconception, such deviations seduce to transcend the temporal corridor of intent and result and to engage in scripting the unforeseeable.
