drift sedimentation erosion
Scope of the design studio was to test a range of scientific framweorks in mapping conditions and transformation processes governing a given site. In cooperation with various public agencies, correlations between configurations of the built environment and health conditions in East Harlem were researched. Thesis was aiming towards a view of the city integrating geological, sociological and economical conditions into a meta-process of city-forming. Design effort was invested into the transcendence of the hard boundaries and edge conditions circumscribing East Harlem to allow for a re-territorialisation of the community, dissiding from the nostalgia of the place and fossilized identity.
